Mary Ellen Fulmer, 82 of Independence, MO passed away, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her residence. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel. Donations may be made in her name to the American Lung Association, 2400 Troost Avenue, Suite 4300 Kansas City, MO 64108. Mary was born March 13, 1928 in McFarland, KS to Joseph B. and Mary (Hastings) Michaelis. She grew up in McFarland, attended grade school there and graduated from Alma High School. She moved to Independence, MO in 1962 and had worked as an account clerk for the Civil Records Department of Jackson County, MO. She enjoyed softball and had played for the Kansas City Dons. She was also a KU basketball fan. She is survived by; a son, Jack Fulmer of Grandview, MO; 3 sisters, Virginia Glotzbach of Paxico, MO, Margaret Farrell of Independence, MO and Carol Gasperich of McFarland, KS; 4 brothers, Frank Michaelis of CA, Wilfred Michaelis of McFarland, KS, Edward Michaelis of Pleasant Valley, MO and Richard Michaelis of Alma, KS; 4 grandchildren, Brandy McCoskey, Terri Krevitz, Stacy Barter and Amy Miller and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Fulmer in 2007; 3 sisters, Lily McCubbin, Ollie Ann Glotzbach and Juanita Coon and twin great grandchildren, Truman and Taylor Barter.
