Sharon Grace Gage passed away Sept. 21, 2010 at home after a battle with cancer. Services will be 10 am, Sat., Sept. 25, 2010 at the Waldo Ave. Restoration Branch, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence, MO; interment at Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Center Place Restoration School or Waldo Restoration Branch, 819 W. Waldo Ave., Independence, MO 64050.
Sharon was born July 13, 1945 in Turley, OK, near Tulsa. She had celebrated her 65th birthday on July 13, 2010. She was the daughter of James Hobbs, Sr. and Alma Juanita (Bowers) Hobbs. She lived most of her childhood and teen years in Odessa, TX.
On Aug. 24, 1967 she was married to Paul James Gage of Tulsa, OK. In 1970, they moved to Sand Springs, OK, where the both worked for the Sand Springs Public School system. They lived there, raising two sons, Ronald Paul Gage born Jan. 12, 1969 and Stuart James Gage born Feb. 16, 1973.
Sharon was baptized at the age of eight into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a faithful follower of her Lord. She served in numerous capacities in the church over the years as Church School Director, Sunday school teacher, Vacation bible School Director and teacher, pianist, participant in women’s activities, youth work and other church responsibilities.
Following church teachings, the inspiration from God, and with the belief that Independence had been designated as the “Center Place” and location for the establishment of Zion, the City of God, the Gages gathered to Independence, MO in the summer of 1993. Sharon worked for US Bank for seven years before joining the staff of the Independence Pubic Schools in the Benefits Dept. at the Board of Education Building. She retired after ten years of service on Jan. 8, 2010.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father in 1996. She is survived by her husband of 43 years on one month, Paul J. Gage, son Ronald Paul Gage and wife Julie and their children Tyler Paul Gage and Alexsandra Nicole Gage, son Stuart James Gage and wife Mille, her mother Alma Hobbs, brother James W. Hobbs, Jr. and wife Margaret, all of Independence, MO, sister Karen Elaine (Hobbs) Farnsworth and husband Larry of College Station, TX and a host of relatives, church and work friends.
In addition to her dedication to the Lord, Sharon was known for her collection of Angels, Precious Moments, Lighthouses and Teddy Bears.
Sharon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She always trusted in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, sharing testimony of Him whenever possible and is now safe and secure in His Loving Arms.
