Violet M. Gaither, 92, of Independence, MO went peacefully at home to her Heavenly Father, while surrounded by her family on Jan. 29, 2012. Violet was born March 9, 1919 in Independence, MO to Glen Cox Sr. and Pearl (Essig) Cox. Violet had worked many years as Hospital Administrator for Sears. She had been a volunteer as a Gray Lady for the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital. She was a life long member of the RLDS (Community of Christ) and most recently of New Hope Congregation. She served as secretary of Sunday School for Slover Park Church. She also volunteered at Laurel Club, Skylarks, Cub Scouts, and was a Book Steward for College Park Congregation. Violet was a very talented woman who enjoyed painting and ceramics. Though, her greatest achievement and enjoyment in life was her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 40 years, Lloyd Gaither; husband of 9 years, James Gaither; grandson, Michael Troy Smith; two brothers, Glen Cox Jr. and Gerald Cox; and one sister, Rosella Klotz. Violet is survived by two daughters, Gloria Edmondson and Karen Harper; three stepdaughters, Sandra Johnston, Linda Bennett and Darlene Morrow; four grandchildren, Susan Anderson, Lisa Edwards, Don Edmondson and Rhonda McArthur; twenty-three great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one brother, E. Dean Cox (Gladys); and sister-in-law, Beverly Cox. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Hope RLDS (Community of Christ).
