Fred Galvan, 85, formerly of Sugar Creek, MO, passed away on March 12, 2007 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. A rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. A visitation will follow from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mary�s Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Fred was born in Atherton, MO on October 23, 1921 to Sebriano and Paula Galvan. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. After the war, he went to work for Missouri Portland Cement Company, which is where he retired after thirty-five years of service. Fred was a lifetime member of St. Mary�s Parish in Independence, MO. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus 3430, and a member of the VFW Post 1000. He was an avid gardener, and served as Market Master of the Independence Farmers Market. Fred was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Vera M. Galvan; two daughters, Sue and husband Terry Carter of Shawnee, KS, Loretta and husband Robert Shull of Lenexa, KS; one son, Dr. David Galvan and wife Kim of Waynesville, MO; ten grandsons and four great grandchildren who called him Papa. Uncle Freddie will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Mary�s Memorial Fund.
