Donald Garner, 97, Independence, MO passed away Nov. 11, 2011. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Friends and family are welcome to arrive at 9 am for services beginning at 10 am, Wed. at the chapel; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
Donald was born July 14, 1914 in Triplett, MO. He grew up in a farming family. He was a machinist at the Armco Steel Plant for 41 years before his retirement in 1975 and was a member of U.S.W.A. Local #13. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. While at Armco competed as a member of the Armco #1 Trap Team.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years Marjorie Garner and five brothers. He is survived by daughter Jean Libby and her companion Spark Needham, Sugar Creek, MO; grandson Terry Akins and wife Vicki, Eastern Jackson County, MO; great-granddaughter Jessica Macko and husband Matt, Independence, MO and many nieces and nephews.
