Gary Gail Cooper

Gary Gail Cooper, a man deeply woven into the tapestry of life, departed from this world on December 17, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on April 11, 1942, in Independence, Missouri, Gary's journey through life was marked by hard work, steadfast dedication, and a spirit that resonated with warmth, laughter, and a profound love for his family.

A diligent worker, Gary spent many years at Allis Chalmers on the assembly and production line, where he became known for his strong work ethic and reliability. His professional life was just one facet of the multifaceted individual he was. He enlisted in the Army on October 4, 1967, and proudly served as a combat engineer during the Vietnam War, earning an honorable discharge on December 28, 1969. This period of service shaped him, leaving indelible marks on his character and infusing him with experiences that would stay with him for a lifetime.

Outside of his work and military service, Gary was a man of many passions. He found joy in woodworking, coaxing beauty and function out of raw timber, and relished the spirited clinks of billiard balls as he shot pool with friends and family. In his younger years, he was an active member of the Moose Lodge, where camaraderie flowed as freely as the laughter that filled the air. A lover of classic country music, Gary often tuned in to the melodies that echoed the trials and triumphs of everyday life, drawing comfort from the stories told through song.

Gary leaves behind a loving family that carries his legacy forward, including his beloved daughter Wendy and her husband Mike Pastor, who brought him joy and pride. He adored his granddaughters Bethannie and Scott Ray, Brittany and Brown Robertson, and Mandy and Ryan Davison, each of whom added brightness to his life. His great-grandchildren, Nathanyel Ray, Ashleigh Ray, Riley Ray, James Ray, and Matthew Davison, along with Hadassah Davison, lighting up his later years love. Gary is also survived by his brother Roger Cooper and sister Joyce Porter, connections that rooted him firmly in the cherished bonds of family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Cooper, whose presence is missed deeply. He was also welcomed in heaven by his parents, Charles H. and Genevieve O. (Wyatt) Cooper, and his brother Omer Cooper, along with other deceased siblings.
