Oak Grove

Gary Alan Roe, born on September 29, 1953, in Independence, Missouri, peacefully passed away on July 24, 2023, in the same city. He was a loving father, dedicated partner, and respected member of his community. Gary's life was filled with hard work, perseverance, and a passion for helping others.

Gary's journey began at Fort Osage High School, where he graduated in 1972. From an early age, Gary showed a natural aptitude for the heating and air field. Working alongside his father while growing up, he honed his skills and developed a strong work ethic that would define him throughout his life. Eager to expand his knowledge and skills, he went on to acquire numerous certificates from trade schools, setting the stage for a successful career ahead. He applied his expertise to become a self-employed professional in the heating and air field.

The United States Navy played a significant role in Gary's life as he proudly served his country during his military service. His dedication and commitment were admirable traits that defined him both personally and professionally.

Outside of work, Gary had a passion for music that brought joy to those around him. He played the guitar in a band and had an undying love for country music. In fact, he once attended a concert where he was hilariously mistaken for the legendary Willie Nelson—an anecdote that always brought a smile to his face. His melodies resonated with friends and family members who found solace and happiness in his soulful tunes.

Beyond his professional achievements and hobbies, Gary cherished spending time with his loved ones. For 27 years, he shared a deep bond with Deborah Lascuola—his long-term girlfriend who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together they boarded horses on the ranch and created unforgettable memories filled with love and laughter.

Gary also found great pride in being a father and grandfather. His daughter, Amanda "Mandy" Hertzfield, and son-in-law, Nick Hertzfield, brought immeasurable joy into his life. Gary's heart swelled with love at the sight of his grandchildren: Haylie, Hunter, and "Izzy" Hertzfield.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Howard Roe and his mother, Jo Ann Hammond. He is survived by his sister Lyla Thompson, and brothers Marty Roe and Robert "Rob" Roe.

Gary will be remembered for his humble nature and direct approach to life. He had a no-nonsense personality that always cut through the noise and got straight to the heart of matters. Yet beneath that straightforward exterior lay a heart full of kindness and compassion that touched countless lives.

A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Gary on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Thunder Ridge Farm (9224 S Campbell Rd, Oak Grove, MO 64075).
