George Michael "Chic" Hill

George Michael Hill, better known as “Chic”, of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully in Independence on August 30, 2023. Chic was born in Boonville, Missouri on April 2, 1939, to Leroy and Beatrice Hill. He was the fourth of five children (Donald, Robert, Terry, and Patricia). He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Independence, Missouri in 1957.

Chic married Georgia Lee Charles in 1962, and together they had three children, daughter Lisa Campbell (nee Hill), and sons Michael and Kevin Hill. He and Georgia remained the epitome of a loving bond until Georgia’s passing in September of 2022.

Chic served in the U.S. Army from 1962-64, where he received commendations as an expert rifleman. His mechanical and leadership skills made an indelible impression on numbers of apprentices, as he spent several years as a teacher/coordinator for Asbestos Workers Local 27 in Independence.

Whether it was as husband, father, brother, grandfather, co-worker, teacher, or coach, Chic radiated kindness, humor, and positivity. His warm smile and infectious laugh would always accompany the best hugs known to humanity. He left his love and energy on the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of kids through coaching youth sports and could magically calm and comfort any crying baby. Chic’s ideal day would probably include bass fishing with his brother Terry, or game night with his family, where he held court with his amazing stories, usually accompanied by a roomful of riotous laughter. He was a voracious reader, consumed crossword puzzles in seconds, and loved watching Mel Brooks movies, the Chiefs, Royals, and Mizzou.

He doted on his grandchildren, which included grandsons Tyler and Daren Campbell, great grandson Watson Campbell, granddaughters Kelsi, Kierstin, and Keely Hill, and granddaughter Johanna Hill and grandson Nathan Hill.

Visitation services will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 22nd with a funeral service held at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 23rd. Both services will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel at 18020 East 39th St, Independence, Missouri 64055. Online condolences may be expressed at
