Gerald "Jerry" Bond

Gerald (Jerry) Bond, age 84, passed away on Sept. 1, 2026, at home following a short illness. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. S., Independence, Mo. Burial will follow immediately after the Service at the Mound Grove Cemetery, 1818 N. River Blvd., Independence, Mo.

Jerry was born on Aug. 14, 1942, in Farley, Mo., where he was raised by his parents Harry and Velta Bond along with two brothers. He spent many hours working on the family farm while growing up. Jerry was a graduate of Platte County High School, Pirate’s Class of 1960 where he played varsity basketball. His senior year the basketball team placed fourth in the class 1 Missouri State Basketball Tournament.

He went on to graduate from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Jerry was a 32-year employee at Dollins Tool Inc, an injection mold manufacturer where he was vice president.

Jerry met Marcia Kay in 1994, and they were happily married for 30 years. They made their home in Liberty where they entertained family and friends with good food and much laughter. Especially memorable were their Halloween and Christmas events when their home was decorated – both inside and out – like something from the pages of Southern Living. Jerry was smart, especially when it came to these events: each season he would dutifully haul the multitude of boxes containing all kinds of home decor trimmings upstairs and then take it all back downstairs (without complaining) after the season! This was also true for Marcia Kay’s famous annual garage sales. And even so his home, the cars and the yard were always perfectly maintained and manicured. And he had recently completed renovation of the deck in the backyard! For these reasons, Marcia’s friends dubbed him “Precious” and they were always grateful when they were on the receiving end of his famous Bread & Butter Pickles.

In his “spare” time Jerry liked to play golf with his buddies and thoroughly enjoyed their trips to courses across the country. He was a regular fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, sticking with them through thick and thin. He was fond also of a good card game with friends and neighbors; he had an uncanny knack for remembering what cards had been played and translating that into a winning hand.

Most of all Jerry was a family man, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was proud of their accomplishments, frequently sharing the latest news with family and friends. He and Marcia enjoyed hosting family dinners, especially those to celebrate family birthdays. And for many weeks, Jerry and Marcia visited her special needs stepbrother bringing him gifts that he loved, and if Jerry would fall asleep, Kevin would rouse him saying “Wake up, Boy!”

Jerry is survived by his devoted wife Marcia Kay Bond, and his loving family: daughter Jodi Scholl (Brent), son Scott Bond, brothers Ronnie Bond (deceased) and Eldon Bond, grandchildren Sydney Scholl, Walker Bond and Samantha Bond.
