Laura Ruth Gibson, 83, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am on Saturday, September 5th, at Parkview Community of Christ; 801 SW 19th St. Blue Springs, MO. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am at the church. Burial will be at Greenton Cemetery, Odessa, MO.
Laura was born September 2, 1931 as one of five children to Walter “LaVerne” and Ruth May (Hudson) Schenck. She graduated from Odessa High School and attended Central Business College. Despite the complications of polio in her young adulthood she was a devoted mother to four children. Laura was born and raised in the Community of Christ Church (formerly RLDS) and her unshakeable faith is a shining example of devotion and perseverance for numerous generations. The things she loved included reading, teaching Sunday school and VBS, singing in choir, serving on the election board, researching genealogy, sewing clothing for her family, and collecting dolls. Her family remembers her jubilant and joyful spirit, her funny and determined attitude, her faithfulness, her perseverance, and her love.
She is survived by daughter, Pamela J. Powers (Stan) of Raytown, MO; son, Regan W. Crowell (Susan) of Deepwater, MO; daughter, Sandra R. Welcher (Gary) of Lee’s Summit, MO; seventeen grandchildren; thirty eight greatgrandchildren; sisters, Marcella Langford, Florine VanTuyl (Harold), and Catharine Whiteman; and foster brothers, Lynn Huft and Gene Williams. Laura was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Walter Joseph Schenck; beloved son, Timothy B. Crowell; loving husband, Donald J. Gibson; and grandson, Jonah Crowell.
