John Giese

October 28, 1932 — December 8, 2013

John Giese, 81, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28th at Walnut Gardens Community of Christ; 19201 East R.D. Mize Rd. Independence, MO. John was born October 28, 1932 in Mitchell, SD to Melvin and Dorothea “Jackie” (Hughes) Giese as one of two children. As a child his family moved to Independence and he graduated from Northeast High School. At 17, he enlisted in the Army where he proudly served during the Korean Conflict. He was a MP as a National Guard Reservist for nearly 16 years. John married his beloved Donna M. (Rawlins) in October of 1954 and together they raised three children. He held many positions including working for the Independence and Kansas City Water Departments, Kansas City Police Department, and TWA as Machinist and retiring there in 1982 as Head of Security. His whole family lived in Florida where John worked with NASA as Plumbing, Heating and Air, and in Saudi Arabia where he was head of Maintenance and Facilities for the American School. After retirement from TWA he worked for numerous police forces humbly earning many commendations and awards. He was also on Board of Directors for Platte County Vocational School. John also enjoyed cooking for Camp Donovan, model trains, karate, and fishing with friends and family in Bennett Springs. He is a long time member and Teacher in the Community of Christ (formerly RLDS). His family feels truly blessed by the opportunities he provided them. John is loved and will be missed. He is survived by wife, Donna of the home; daughter, Teri Steele and husband Roger of St. Peters, MO; son, Bill Giese of Platte City, MO; daughter, Jana Holder and husband Jerry of Blue Springs, MO; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
