Michael Ginn, 61, of Independence, MO passed away August 28, 2014 in rural Holt County, MO. A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. Michael was born December 9, 1952 at Eglin Air Force Base. He was active in Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. He became active again with his son. Michael worked as advancement chairman. He spent many summers at H. Roe Bartle Scout Camp. He served two years in the U.S. Army as a tank driver, and became a sergeant. He served at Fort Knox, KY and in Germany. Michael worked at General Motors Leeds Plant for fourteen years until it closed. He attended college, getting a degree in aviation maintenance. He was a member of the Phi Theta Cappa Honor Society. After graduation, he worked for Maple Woods and Blue River Community Colleges. After 24 years with the colleges, he joyfully retired on February 28, 2013. Michael enjoyed traveling, fixing things, airplanes, watching TV, movies and helping others. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; son, Charles (Catherine Smith); mother, Bonnie Ginn; sister, Terry Moyer (Larry); brother, Jerry; and brother and sister-in-law, Bill Derr and Connie Boswell. The family requests that donations be made to Heart of America Council of Boy Scouts of America.
