Ken Givan, 79, of Kansas City, MO passed away Sat, Jan., 22, 2011 at his home. He was the only child born on July 19, 1931 to Vernon & Reva (Foster) Givan in Independence, MO. Vernon was the co-owner of Polly’s Pop Indep Bottling Co. Ken was completing a book about this historic company. Ken was an active member of the First Bapt Church in Indep. Ken’s accomplishments included Eagle Scout; Wm Chrisman’s Sports Hall of Fame as a 7x Letterman for football, basketball and track; MO State track hurdler and played basketball at CMSU; proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp in the Korean Conflict. Ken enjoyed his career at SW Bell, after 37 yrs retiring as Division Marketing Mgr. He was Director of Communications for the Republican Nat’l Convention. After retirement, he was a Regional Mgr. for LDXNet Comm and then returned to SWBell as a Consultant. Ken was an active community leader of the Rotary Club, Optimist Club and Chamber of Commerce and MO Chapter President for the Jaycees. He also served as the VP of the Telephone Pioneers. Mr. Givan is survived by his wife Dixie Lee (Howland) Givan; sons Steve Givan and girlfriend Shelly Donovan, Jeffrey Givan; daughter Laura Koch and Stewart Koch; grandchildren Taylor and Blake Givan, Carly and Olivia Koch. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Stacey Givan.
