Paul Emil Goettel, age 86, of Independence, MO passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 3:30 pm. His family was by his side in his room at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Mr. Goettel was the son of Karl Emil and Nettie Goettel. He was born in Alliance, Ohio and moved to Independence in 1939. He graduated from William Chrisman High School. Following his Army service during World War II, he worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, where he met his future wife of 65 years, Marybelle Baker. Mr. Goettel worked in the credit department at Sears for 13 years before establishing his own business, Kansas Merchants Service, which he operated for 27 years. Mr. Goettel is survived by his wife, Marybelle Goettel; his son, David Goettel and wife, Henri; and his daughter, Liesa Schroeder and husband, Jon, all of Independence, MO; and his granddaughter, Courtney Schroeder of Columbia, MO. A memorial service for Mr. Goettel will be held at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 39th Street at 291 Highway, Independence at 2 pm on Saturday, August 9, 2008. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
