Betty Gomez

Betty J. Gomez, 82, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 at her home. Betty was born February 2, 1928 in Dillon, KS, the seventh daughter to Alpha A. and Eugene B. Maddux. She married Gene Dabbs in 1946 and to this union one daughter, Barbara, was born. She then married Augustine Gomez in 1971. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and six sisters: Waneta Barnes, Helen Dutzel, Irma Hill, Ruth Ehart, Bessie Dabbs, and Marybelle Wimsatt. She leaves her daughter, Barbara Overbeck and her husband Richard of Independence, MO; two grandsons: Ron Overbeck and Rick and Kristine Overbeck; three great grandchildren: Eric, Ryan and Rachael Overbeck; one great-great grandson Logan Richard Overbeck; special sister Grace Thompson of Kearney, MO; nephew Donald Wimsatt; niece Geraldine Houchen of Archie, MO and niece Janice Harader of Harrisonville, MO. After starting as an office clerk, Betty worked her way up to an accountant position, retiring in 1995. A visitation will be from 10-11:00 AM Thursday, November 18 with services to begin at 11:00 AM all at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence, MO. Graveside services will be at 1:30 PM Thursday at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, Shawnee, KS.
