Melvin L. Goodman, 90, Independence, MO passed away April 20, 2015. Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be 3:30 pm, Friday, April 24 at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 1:30-3 pm, Friday at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane, Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 55447-4752. Melvin was born Dec. 4, 1924 to Joseph and Lessie Lee (Clark) Goodman in Mooresville, MO. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was a member of Fairmount Christian Church for over 50 years and served as an elder and deacon. He worked for Dobson Cleaners and Fairmount Cleaners for forty-six years. He was an avid bowler in leagues in the area, pitched horseshoes and was a huge K.U. basketball and Royals baseball fan. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and a great-great grandson. He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years Lois Goodman, of the home; daughters Debbie Gillen and husband David; Paula Schweikhardt, all of Ft. Scott, KS; Brenda Smith and husband Doug; Laura Stagg and husband David, all of Independence, MO; sisters-in-law Marilyn Coe; Carol Pearce, both of Independence, MO; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and three great-great granddaughters.
