Ruby Josephine Gordon of Independence, MO, passed away on Monday, March 3rd at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, MO.
The daughter of Mabel and William Barham, Ruby was born in Kansas City, MO on November 28, 1921. She married Jerrold M. Gordon and they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at East Independence Community of Christ Church. In recent years she attended Pleasant Heights Community of Christ.
Ruby was a devoted mother to her four children. Music was a passion in her life and she fostered the love of music in three generations of her family. An accomplished pianist, Ruby accompanied church choirs, played for services, and often played for her children when they sang. One of her favorite roles in life was being a grandmother.
While she lived much of her life in Independence, Ruby and Jerrold moved to Noel, MO where they spent more than twenty years. After Jerrold’s death, Ruby returned to Independence. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Jerrold, her son Richard (Rick) Gordon, a sister Wilma Hupman, and a brother Richard L. Barham.
She is survived by daughters Jan (and Larry) Albrecht of Hartland, WI, Wilma (and Russell) Penniston of Independence, and son Larry (and Amelia) Gordon of Hendersonville, TN. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 7 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO with visitation from 8:30 to 10:00 AM. The family suggests contributions to the Scholarship Fund at Pleasant Heights Community of Christ, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133.
