Gregory “Greg” Allen Kearney, 65, of Independence, MO, died March 9, 2024.
Greg graduated St. Mary’s High in 1976. He was retired as an accountant from Metropolitan Community College.
Greg was the guy who ALWAYS showed up. If you needed to tote a barge; lift a bale or maybe pick kid up from school, Greg was your guy! Happiest wading a creek, rod & reel in hand, he taught many a little kid how to bait a hook and cast a line. It was more fishin’ than catchin’, but to our Greg it was much more about being out and teaching the wee ones to love the outdoors.
Not one for the limelight, Greg was a participant in life. He stepped up; led by example; did not brag. He was unflappable. His AA affiliation gave him the opportunity to build lifelong friendships and offer council (sometimes wise) and comfort to people who had put real effort into screwing up their lives.
Greg didn’t feel the need to fill the silence. His presence alone was a comfort. He knew who he was!
Greg loved his Georgi, and his family. His friends became family. He thrived on time outdoors, campfires, road trips, old trucks and life. The man could not walk by a baby without cooing, gurgling, and flirting.
He was proceeded in death by parents Harold and Theresa; his brother John; and his stepson Everett. He is survived by his wife Georgianna Saunders; sisters Betty(Larry)Morrissey, Donna Pittman, Virginia (Dennis)Parker, Rita O'Donnell, Barbara Kearney; brothers Charles (Shirley), Bob (Peggy), Brian (Peggy), Richard, and Mark (Kerry) as well as children Jen (Brandon) DeShazer, stepson Keith (Angie) Aumiller, and stepdaughter Lisa (Philip) Maas; grandchildren Grevin, Zoe, Ethan, Carson, Gavin, Estella, Alex, Gigi, and Zach; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends who were family.
