Gerald Dean Griffin,“Dean” was born on April 23, 1931 in Atwater, California to Perry and Katheryn Griffin. Dean peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the age of 79 years in Independence, Missouri.
Dean spent most of his childhood in Michigan where he met and married his beloved wife Geraldine “Gerry”. Dean and Gerry had a rich 56 years together with their children and grandchildren.
Prior to marriage, Dean served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Japan for two years.
Dean was a simple man of profound faith. His passionate commitment to Christian beliefs, his devotion and heartwarming generosity toward his family, friends and those in need are the hallmarks of his life on this side of eternity. For many years, he ministered to those in prison and was very active in ministries within the Assembly of God Church.
Dean had a strong work ethic that he exhibited in the various jobs he held over his lifetime, whether it was driving over-the-road or local routes, or managing his own construction business. He was committed to doing the job right, honestly, and without complaint.
He was a very engaged father and grandfather, active and involved in all of the events and special days of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives.
He left family and friends with cherished memories of a life well lived and an enduring legacy of service, devotion, love and Christian stewardship to emulate. All who knew him were graced by Dean’s sense of humor, his generous spirit and his love of friends and family. He will be dearly missed. Dean is preceded in death by his parents Perry and Katheryn Griffin and brother Bernard Griffin.
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Dean is survived by his wife Geraldine Grace Griffin “Gerry”; his children Larry & Michelle Griffin, Tim & Teresa Griffin, and Shawn & Angela (Griffin) Moore; his grandchildren Ryan, Miranda, Lauren, Bryce, Tawnie and Samantha Griffin; his sisters Carolyn Russell and Martha Shay.
The family deeply thanks the staff of Village Hospice of Lee’s Summit, Missouri for their loving care and concern.
