Johnson Lee “Johnny” Griffin, Sr., 85, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Friday, July 23 at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 24 at the Chapel with burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. Johnny was born May 1, 1925 to Carlos and Lillie Griffin in Puryear, TN. He had two younger brothers, Vernon who preceded him in death, and Jerry of Poughkeepsie, NY. He proudly served during World War II in the U.S. Navy. Johnny worked as a sales manager for dealerships including Galen Boyer and Jerry Hays from 1953-1981. He enjoyed anything with motors including boats and automobiles, loved the Lake of the Ozarks and was extremely patriotic. He was a member of the VFW Post 1000. More than anything, Johnny loved his family and will be missed for his protective nature. Johnny is survived by his wife of 61 years, Laura “Peggy” Griffin; children Linda Scott, Dana Alvis and husband Sherrill, Debra Richardson, Johnson “Jay” Griffin, Jr., and Jayne Fasse and husband Greg; grandchildren Jim Scott and wife Deanna, Brent Fasse and wife Heather, Clint Fasse and wife Rachel, Billy Grabb, Tommy Alvis, and Cody Richardson; six great-grandchildren; one nephew; and two nieces.
