Dale F. Griffith, 85, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, August 7, 2008. A visitation will be from 2-4:00 PM Sunday, August 10 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington. Services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, August 11 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Sheley Rd, Independence; burial at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
Dale was born August 6, 1923 in Wesson, AR to Ernest and Janie Carl (Douglass) Griffith. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1945 during WWII, earning a purple heart after serving in four European campaigns and the Battle of the Bulge. Dale was employed by the American Oil Co. in Arkansas from 1950-1971 prior to being transferred to Amoco Oil in Sugar Creek, working there as a pipe fitter until his retirement in 1982. Dale is survived by his wife of 61 years, Katie Marie (McDowell) Griffith of the home; three children: Vallie J. True of Lee’s Summit, Janice M. Walls and husband Thomas C. of Independence, and Dale F. Griffith, Jr. and wife Christine D. of Independence; and three grandchildren: Jennifer E. Griffith, Jacquelyn D. Griffith, and Jeremiah “J.D.” Walls. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
