A. Jeanette Grimme

Alice Jeannette Grimme, 87, of Independence, MO, died peacefully on November 23, 2008 at the Carmel Hills Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 13, 1921, in Eaton, Ohio, the daughter of Charles H. and Nelle L. Grimme. Her father died when she was just eleven. Jeannette had one brother who died in infancy. She graduated from Eaton High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio Wesleyan, and her Master’s in Religious Education from Oberlin School of Theology. She was employed at Findley College in Findley, Ohio where she met and became a life-long friend with Dorothea Wolcott. In 1965, they moved to Independence where Jeannette taught in the Raytown School District until her retirement in 1983. She was an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church, the Shepherd’s Center of Independence, which she helped organize, the Inter Reading Association, and the Raytown Retired Teachers Association. Jeannette, along with Dorothea, traveled extensively all around the world. They visited all of the forty-eight contiguous states. A service celebrating the life of Jeannette will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, preceded by a visitation from 1-2:00 p.m. at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery, Lexington, Ohio. In lieu of flowers it is requested that contributions be made to the A. Jeannette Grimme Memorial Fund at Christ United Methodist Church, 14506 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A special thank you is extended to the staff of Carmel Hills Healthcare Center and to the staff of Crossroads Hospice for your loving care given to Jeannette.
