Ottis Vince Grounds, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died on May 13, 2008 after a long illness, surrounded by his beloved family. Born in Independence, Mo. in 1923 to Myrtle and Ottis Grounds Sr., he is survived by his “soulmate”, his wife of 62 years, Betty Grounds, sons Bill, Rory and Greg and daughter Kris Greenlee. He was blessed to have had 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Ottis graduated from William Chrisman High School, attended college at William Jewell College, the Univ. of Mo, and graduated as a D.V.M. at Colorado State University in 1945 where he met the woman of his dreams, Betty.
Ottis served in the army during World War II and in the Air Force as a Captain during the Korean War at Craig Air Force Base. He built and practiced veterinary medicine in the Eastwood Hills Animal Hospital and later established one of the first mobile veterinary clinics in the country. He practiced for 43 years.
During his life, he was Pres. of the Northwest Mo. Veterinary Assoc., and Pres. of the K.C., Mo. Veterinary Association. He was a lifetime honorary member of the American Veterinary Association and a lifetime member of the Mo. Veterans Association.
Ottis was a longtime member of the Blue Ridge Blvd. United Methodist Church. He felt blessed by God for the love of his wife, family and friends. A memorial service will be held at the Blue Ridge Blvd. United Methodist Church, 5055 Blue Ridge Blvd., Raytown, Mo on Saturday May 24, 2008. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 AM followed by a memorial service beginning at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to KC Hospice House or the Blue Ridge Blvd. United Methodist Church.
