Leo A. Gussman of Independence, MO passed away on March 26, 2012. He was born in West Branch, MI on August 22, 1939. Leo graduated from West Branch High School. He earned his Associate's Degree at Graceland College in Lamoni, IA. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Choral Conducting and Church Music at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. Leo taught High School Vocal Music in the Kansas City and Fort Osage School Districts. He graduated with a Dr. of Chiropractic Degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, MO. Before his retirement in 2001, Leo worked many years at GEHA as their Office of Personnel Management Coordinator. Leo was baptized as a member of the RLDS church at the age of eight and later was ordained to the offices of priest and elder. He was Center Stake and Blue Valley Stake Music Director and director of the Stone Church choir. He also directed the Independence Sanitarium Nurses' Chorus. Leo was the director of The Restoration Chorale from 2001 until the present. After his affiliation with the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he was ordained to the office of High Priest and set apart as Patriarch/Evangelist. Leo is survived by his wife of 43 years, Linda (Grubb) Gussman, their son Chris and daughter Samantha (Eric) Wilson and his beloved grandchildren, Haleigh, Ean and Aiden, all of Independence, MO. He leaves his sister Eunice Myers, Mt. Ayr, IA, and brothers Dean Atherton, West Branch MI and David Gussman, Independence, MO and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' Music Fund, 700 W. Lexington, Independence, MO 64050. Leo's Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Remnant Church Conference Center, 2820 M 291 Frontage Road, Independence, MO 64057.
