Eugene Hadden

June 21, 1922 — January 8, 2014

Eugene Francis Hadden, 91, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Gene was born June 21, 1922 in Kansas City and was raised by his mother, Lena (Davis) and stepfather, Harry Miller. He attended Lathrop Industrial Academy before enlisting in the Navy and proudly serving in the North Atlantic and the South Pacific during WWII. In 1951 he married his beloved Mary (Hritz) and together they raised their only son. Gene worked for Phillips and for Bayer for over 25 years in maintenance. He especially enjoyed photography, flying model planes, motorcycles, fishing, and his gun collection. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, where he served in many chairs. After his wife’s passing he was baptized at 89 in the Community of Christ Church and attended the Summit Grove Congregation. Gene is loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by grandsons, Lance LaPrest and wife Rosario of Cooper City, FL; and Shawn LaPrest and wife Kristi of New Berlin, WI; great-grandchildren, Josh, Aubrey and Miles LaPrest; and special friend, James Cox who cared for him in his later years. Gene was preceded in death by an infant son; daughter, Dottie Lee LaPrest; son, Rick Michael Hadden; and beloved wife, Mary. The family encourages contributions to Summit Grove Community of Christ Church (Memorial Gardens); 411 S. Lee’s Summit Rd. Independence, MO, in his memory.
