John Halastik

November 4, 1923 — October 27, 2010

John E. Halastik, 86, beloved husband, daddy, papa and friend passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on October 27, 2010 in Sugar Creek, MO. A visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 30 with a Rosary to be said at 12:30 PM. Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow under the direction of Father Schuele, all at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 11231 Chicago Ave., Sugar Creek, MO 64054. The procession to Mound Grove Cemetery will follow Mass.
The love of his life, Dorothy, fell in love with John while he was serving for the United States Army Air Force during WWII. They were married in Bramford, England in 1945. They lived together in their home that John built from the ground up for 65 years. He retired from Armco Steel in 1977 after 35 years. In retirement, John generously spent most of his free time helping others. John’s many pastimes included fishing with his sons and son-in-law, playing the harmonica, working in his vegetable garden, boating and teaching his family to water-ski. John loved to dance, especially the polka, with his wife.
His parents, Andy and Anna, his brothers, Albert and Edwin, and his sister, Annie, preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Dorothy; daughter Mary Ann Kelley, husband Jerry; daughter Carolyn Kay; son John “Chuck” Halastik, wife Lisa; and son Robert Halastik, wife Dixie; his grandchildren: Suzanne Halastik, Alicia White (John), Kerri Kay, Jason Kelley, Jonathan Kay (Alison), Rob Halastik (Emily) and Jenna Halastik; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; extended family in England and friends. John fought a valiant battle against a relentless disease known as Alzheimer’s supported by a loving wife and surrounded by a caring family and friends.
The Halastik family would like to thank the Catholic Community Hospice, VA, and other caretakers for their care and support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Catholic Community Hospice, VA or Alzheimer’s Association.
