Gene was born in 1937 to Eugene E., Sr. and Doris Elizabeth (Hefflon) Hall in Independence, MO. He was a lifelong member of the RLDS/Community of Christ Church. He started his working career as an apprentice in Local #10 of the Int’l Association of Structural Steel and Ornamental Ironworkers in Kansas City, MO in 1954. The last structural work he did in K.C. was on the Truman Sports Complex in 1973. In 1964 the family moved to Anchorage, AK. He transferred his membership to Local #751 and worked on the Oil Pipeline at Prudhoe Bay.
In 1987 he took a dispatch for an ironwork job in Honolulu, HI and worked about five months on Johnston Atoll in the South Pacific. After sustaining a back injury there, he no longer worked at the trade after 1987. He retired officially from ironwork in 2002.
The family returned to the Independence area in 1999 and Gene worked as a security guard for Guardsmark Services, Wackenhut Services, U.S. Security and the RLDS Church. From 1961 through 1964 and from 1969 to 1973 he was a dump truck owner/operator in Independence as Gene’s Trucking and Gene Hall Trucking. He was also an owner/operator of a long haul contract from 1985 through 1989 called Gen-Eve Transportation.
Gene was proud of over thirty-five years of K-9 experience working with the first German Shepherds utilized by the Anchorage and Seward, Alaska, Police Departments, Alaska State Troopers and providing private K-9 narcotics detection services to fish processing, vessel owners, remote pipeline locations and logging camp companies. During this period of time he was one of the first K-9 owner/handlers to work dogs on the streets of Anchorage. He was the owner and manager of Arctic K-9 Services providing mobile and K-9 security patrols in Anchorage in support of ten major apartment and condo complexes. He also provided village public safety at Icy Bay and Two Moon Bay, AK for timber logging camps.
He was happiest working with dogs in all endeavors including breeding and training. His accomplishments include two Register of Merit Shepherds with top ten national rankings, fifteen championship titles and top Alaska Show winners for 1980 through 1990. He was listed in German Shepherd Quarterly National Breeder of the Year in 1980 and 1985.
