Our mother and grandmother, Violet Lily Butler Hall, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on February 19, 2008. Mom was born October 1, 1927 in Aldershot, Hampshire, England. She met and married our dad, James G. Hall in Winchester, England while he was stationed there during World War II. Mom immigrated to Macon, MO as a War Bride in 1946 and they later moved to Independence, MO where she lived for the next 62 years. Mom worked for the Kansas City, MO School District in the cafeterias of Van Horn, Fairmount, Mt. Washington and Sugar Creek schools. Officially retired in 1992, she continued working and volunteering in the schools until May, 2007. She loved to keep busy and the extra money helped to fund her travels. Those travels included numerous trips home to England, Scandinavia, Europe, Canada, the Bahamas, and across the United States. Mom was preceded in death by our dad James and her mum Olive Butler, both in 1978 and by close family friend Gary Hiemer in 1992. Survivors include her children, James D. Hall, Patricia Greeno, Alicia Reyes, special sons- in-law Dwight Salley, Richard Greeno, Stephen Reyes, grandchildren Christopher and Jennifer Greeno, Catrina Greeno, Eric Reyes, and Brent Reyes, great-grandchildren Devin Greeno and Ashley Greeno. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. with services beginning 10 a.m. on Saturday at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W, Lexington, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Luke’s Hospice 3100 Broadway, KCMO 64111. Special thanks to Hospice and the doctors, nurses and staff of KU Med Center for the wonderful care. Special thanks, too, to her many friends and travel buddies for the many happy times you shared and your cards of encouragement. Godspeed and Cheerio Mum, Grandma, Sugar Granny/Bear. We love you.
