Florence Hallett

Florence E. (Lesh) Hallett, 90, Kansas City, MO passed away Dec. 13, 2011. Services will be at 10:30 am, Sat., Dec. 17 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; entombment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am before the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave., K.C., MO 64105-1375.
Florence was born Oct. 2, 1921 in Lamoni, IA. Her family moved to Independence, MO and she graduated from William Chrisman High School, attended Graceland College, earned her B.S. from Central Missouri State and her Masters in Education from UMKC. She began her teaching career in a one-room school house near Shoal Creek in Clay County, MO and taught in the Raytown schools from 1961 until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the N.K.C. Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma - Alpha Rho chapter, the American Association of University Women and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association. She and her husband, Harvey, had traveled to sixty-four countries over their years together. She also loved collecting antiques and playing bridge.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Harvey R. Hallett; brothers Leonard Lesh, Wilbur Lesh and Raymond Lesh. She is survived by son Michael D. Hallett, and wife Chan, Carrollton, TX; daughters Susan D. Barnes and husband Joe, Batavia, IL; Deborah A. Ashley and husband Robert, Rayville, MO; brother David B. Lesh and wife Judy; sisters Ruby Morgan; Leah Thompson; Lucy Scherer and husband Jacob, all of Independence, MO; Mary Lou Yahnig and husband Dave, Archie, MO; four granddaughters and three great-grandsons.
