Mary Alice Hamblin, 88, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13th at Odessa Restoration Branch 131 Hwy N, Odessa, MO. Burial will be at Odessa Cemetery.
Mary Alice was born December 4, 1925 in Independence to Jesse Hyrum and Alene Cardel (Ruppert) Friend as the youngest of three children. She attended William Chrisman High School. She later moved to Colorado where she met and married Harry Berton Hamblin on April 12, 1952. Together they raised four children. She was a cook for the Sedalia, CO schools until 1972 when they relocated back to Odessa and she cooked for numerous senior centers and facilities. Mary Alice was a member of the Odessa Restoration Branch since 1972, participating in their church choir. She was a devoted mother who enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and supporting her children through the school PTA and other activities. She is remembered for her deep love for family and the way she always provided birthday dinners as unique as the family member being celebrated. She is loved and will be missed.
Mary Alice is survived by daughters, Donna Bryson (Michael) of Independence, MO; and Linda Carlile (Bill) of Lee’s Summit, MO; stepdaughter, Karen Ann Hamblin-LaNite of Denver, CO; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; son, Harry Wayne Hamblin; sister, Virginia Mae Quick; and brother, Leslie Wayne “Buddy” Friend.
