Joseph Tyler Hammon, 14, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. A visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E 39th St. Independence, MO. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; 1416 SW 19th St. Blue Springs, MO 64015.
Joey was born May 26, 2000 in Independence, MO to Shayna Dawn Piedimonte and Miles Albert “Matt” Hammon III. He grew up a happy and energetic child. He was attending Blue Springs High School and was actively involved in the Junior Varsity Soccer Team as goalie. Joey also played cello in the school orchestra. He was a smart and ambitious student who took many advanced classes. His family joined the LDS Church 5 years ago and since then he was a faithful believer who participated in youth group and was interested in being a Home Teacher. His family also volunteered at Great Plains SPCA where he adopted “Clarence” an elderly dog that was desperate for a home. His family remembers him as always being helpful and good to people, as a sensitive and empathetic friend, and having a creative and passionate spark in life.
He is survived by his mother, Shayna Piedimonte; father, Matt Hammon and stepmother NaKisha Brooke; brother, William Nicholas “Cole” Piedimonte; maternal grandmother, Karen Kay Piedimonte; and maternal grandfather, William Daniel Piedimonte and wife Sheryl; paternal grandparents, Rebecca Ann and Miles Albert Hammon, Jr.; aunt, Amber Danee Takens and husband Joseph Alan; aunt, Katrina Paige Hammon; uncle, Jeremy Brett Hammon and wife Amanda Kierstein; cousins, Joseph, Jace, Ethan, Grayson, and Ava Kate; and numerous others who will miss him greatly. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Joey Hammon Scholarship Fund, established to support those wanting to pursue an education in the fields of social work or psychology, with an emphasis in working with children and adolescents; checks payable: Edward Jones 1416 N 7 Hwy Blue Springs, MO 64014 RE Joey Hammon Scholarship Fund.
