HARRY EUGENE HANSEN
Harry Eugene “Gene” Hansen, 90, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015. A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00am Saturday, September 5th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am at the chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery with full military honors. Gene was born January 28, 1925, in Independence, Missouri and raised by his mother, Mildred and stepfather, Charlie Paschal. In World War II his naval service included the D-Day Invasion at Omaha Beach and the Battle of Okinawa. Once he returned stateside he met his beloved Carol Margaret (Hodges). They married on February 22, 1957, and together raised four sons. He was a major supporter to the four boys in scouting, encouraging all to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He worked for Standard Oil eventually being promoted to Superintendent during his 36 years of service. They are long time members of Eastside Baptist Church greeting the congregation and active in their Sunday School class. Gene also enjoyed golfing, playing softball, and camping at all of the Missouri State Parks. Anyone who knew Gene remembered him as a hard working family man who loved a good joke and always had a ready smile. He is loved and will be missed. Gene is survived by wife, Carol of the home; sons, Brent Hansen (Diane) of Huntersville, NC; Paul Hansen (Tricia) of Grain Valley, MO; Eric Hansen (Jana) of Springfield, MO; and Jeffrey Hansen (Eileen) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, David, Ryan, Natalie, Carolyn, Todd, Elise, Luke, Lucy, and William. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions to The Wounded Warrior Foundation or Eastside Baptist Church in his memory.
