Raymond M. Hardy, 92, Independence, MO, died Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be 10:00 am, Monday, October 5th at Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:00-3:00 pm on Sunday at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Center Place Restoration School. Mr. Hardy was born May 29, 1917, in Fisher, Arkansas, to Charles and Anna Hardy. He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, He met the love of his life, MayDean Speaks, at the Stone Church in Independence and proposed shortly thereafter. They were married in 1948 and spent 61 wonderful years together. Ray had worked as a funeral director for Speaks Chapel and D.W. Newcomers Son’s Funeral Homes and was President of Tribute Casket Company. He was General Manager of Johnson County Memorial Gardens before retiring in 1983. He was a Boy Scout leader and an honorary warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a member of the American Legion and Optimist Club and belonged to the South Crysler Restoration Branch. Ray is survived by his loving wife, MayDean “Bobbie” Hardy, of the home; 4 children, Cheri Wolff, Gaye McIntyre, Randy Hardy, and Lisa Herron; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and other loving relatives and friends.
