John W. Hart, Jr., 79, Independence, MO passed away May 8, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am, Monday, May 13 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 10017 E. 36th Terr., Independence, MO 64052; interment with Military Honors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Sunday with the Rosary beginning at 7:30 pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel., 18020 E. 39th St., Independence MO 64055. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Assoc., 6800 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS 66212. John was born July 24, 1933 in Kansas City, MO and graduated from Glennon High in 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX and Guam. After his discharge from the Air Force, he worked for TWA as a mechanic before beginning his nearly forty-year career with the Kansas City Star. He worked as a linotype machinist and as a printer doing paste-up ads before his retirement in 1993. He married JoAnn Patecell on Sept. 17, 1960. He loved golfing, bowling, fishing, camping with his friends and family and watching K.C. Royals baseball games. He enjoyed working with his hands and in his retirement did woodworking projects. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. John was preceded in death by his parents John W. Hart. Sr. and Bridie (Martin) Hart and sister Mary Ann (Hart) Hardey. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years JoAnn Hart, of the home; daughter Deborah Pugh and husband Keith, Blue Springs, MO; son Kenneth W. Hart, Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren Neil Pugh and Reese Pugh, both of Blue Springs, MO; brother-in-law Ed Hardey, Romeoville, IL; and six nieces and nephews.
