Edwin R. “Ed” Harter, Sr., 90, of Independence, MO was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 16, 2011. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO 64052. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Ed was born March 27, 1921 in Muskogee, OK to Earl and Mabel (Schulenberg) Harter, one of seven children. He retired in 1977 after 30 years of dedicated service from Missouri Portland Cement (LaFarge). Mr. Harter was a quiet and gentle man who loved his family dearly. Ed was a long time member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and working in the yard in his spare time. Ed is survived by his wife Geraldine (Hurt) Harter; children Edwin Harter, Jr., Doris Clubb and husband Charley, David R. Harter, Sr., Larry Joe Harter and wife Margaret, Carol Clements; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. Harter was preceded in death by his first wife Gladys Harter in 1974; daughter Patsy Paschall in 2003; son David Rolls in 2008.
