Dorothy Rosalia Harvey, 78, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church. Dorothy was born June 30, 1931 in East St. Louis, IL to Stanley W. and Rose (Smerek) Guzy. She grew up there and graduated from St. Theresa’s Academy. She had worked for a long time as the office manager for the Englewood Ben Franklin store before she retired. She was an active member of the Northern Boulevard United Methodist Church where she was a longtime member of the choir, president of the United Methodist Women and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the PTA, the Church Women United and was a Cub Scout den mother. She was married to Charles Harvey on May 4, 1957, he preceded her in death on August 14, 1997. Survivors include; 2 sons, Chuck Harvey and his wife Renita of Independence, MO and Bob Harvey and his wife Jackie of Lee’s Summit, MO; a brother, Stanley W. Guzy, Jr. and his wife June of Garden Grove, CA; a sister-in-law, Delores Guzy of Granite City, IL; 4 grandchildren, Charles R. Harvey III, Staci Harvey, Tyler Andersen and Nate Andersen and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
