Elden Hatcher

November 18, 1933 — September 7, 2014

Elden Edwin Hatcher, 80, died September 7, 2014 in Kansas City, MO. He was born in Missouri Valley, IA November 18, 1933, moved to Wynona, MO and then to Independence in 1943. He was the son of Clarence and Lorna (Hoover) Hatcher of Independence. Elden attended school in the Kansas City area and graduated from Northeast High School in 1952. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged 1956 at Ft. Hood, TX. He retired from the Independence Post Office in 1989. Elden is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Brumback) Hatcher; two sons, Steven Hatcher and wife Carolyn of Liberty, MO; Danny Hatcher of Liberty, MO; one daughter, Sharon Long and husband Mike Long of Pleasant Hill, MO; four granddaughters, Emily Hatcher and Eric Page of Roeland Park, KS; Ashley Heinrichs and husband Nick Heinrichs of Grain Valley, MO; Cheyenne and Savannah Long of Pleasant Hill, MO; one great grandson, Logan Ray Heinrichs; one brother, Amil Hatcher and wife Pearl of Kansas City, MO; four nephews, Wayne Hatcher and wife Judy, Bruce Hatcher and wife Debbie, Mark Hatcher and wife Karen, and Scott Hatcher; and a host of other family and friends. Elden was a long time member of Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church of Independence, MO and served as a deacon for many years. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W Lexington, Independence, MO 64052. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church, 3324 Tepee Court, Independence, MO 64057.
