Virgil Hatfield

October 19, 1937 — March 15, 2013

Virgil E. Hatfield, 75, Independence, MO passed away March 15, 2013. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, March 21 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at the chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to College Park Community of Christ, 1021 W. College St., Independence, MO 64050.
Virgil was born Oct. 19, 1937 in Wilberton, KS. He retired from the Ford Claycomo plant in 2004 and was a member of UAW Local #249. He was a member of the College Park Congregation where he had served as a Priest and Deacon. He was a master story-teller and fisherman who loved to read, do latch-work crocheting, solve jigsaw puzzles and was also a carpenter. He was known as a peace-keeper.
Virgil was preceded in death by daughter Kathy Hunt, sister Kathleen Lange; brothers John Hatfield, Gene Hatfield; granddaughters Lonetta Watts and Christy Paddock. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years Sonjah Hatfield, of the home; daughters Carolyn Griffin and husband Jim; Cindy Alexander and husband Donald; Markita Hatfield; son David Hatfield and wife Donna, all of Independence MO; sister June Hatfield, Kansas City, MO; twenty grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; the first great-great-grandchild on the way; and very good friends Kathy Bauer, Independence, MO and Brent Jacobs, Kansas City, MO
