Bettie Irene Haworth, 87, Independence, MO, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at her home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, June 7, 2010 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO. Burial to follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Bettie was born November 9, 1922 in Richmond, KS the daughter of Roscoe Robert and Amy Jane (Smith) Baker. She had been employed at the Auditorium where she served as secretary for Carl Mesle and later with the Kansas City School Board Special Education Office as a secretary. Bettie was a member of the Mt. Washington, Englewood, Second Church RLDS Congregations, and South Crysler Restoration Branch where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and supported her husband in his pastoral duties. She was involved in numerous events with her children including, serving as PTA President in 1966, den mother, and Oriole Camp leader and cook. She was a longtime volunteer with Laurel Club. Bettie enjoyed sewing, traveling, and doing crossword puzzles.
She married Harold B. Haworth on August 27, 1944. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Elaine, and sister Lorraine Dean.
Survivors include her son, Bob Haworth and his wife Judi of Independence; daughter, Trish Hernandez and her husband Max of Woodbridge, VA; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Donetta Phillips and Helen Parker and numerous nieces and nephews.
