Harold Haworth

January 14, 1920 — March 8, 2008

Harold Bert Haworth, 88, Independence, MO, died Saturday, March 8, at Kansas City Hospice House. Services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, March 13, at Speaks Suburban Chapel; burial in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO, with full military honors. Visitation will be 6-8:00 pm Wednesday at the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kansas City Hospice House. Mr. Haworth was born January 14, 1920, in Kansas City, MO, to Bert and Mary Belle Haworth. Harold served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He married Bettie Baker following the war and they made their home in Independence. Harold was a life member of the VFW. He also belonged to the Laurel Club, was involved with the Ham Radio Club, the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, the KC Remote Model Airplane Club, and loved sewing fishing bags and hats, gardening, camping, and woodworking, having built the home they shared and two boats. He had been an officer of the Toastmasters Club, and enjoyed electronics and playing guitar. He was an Elder at the South Crysler Restoration Branch and had previously served as Pastor at Englewood and Second Church. Harold was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Elaine, and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bettie, of the home; two children, son Robert Haworth and wife Judi, Independence, MO, and daughter Patricia Hernandez and husband Max, Woodbridge, VA; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and other loving relatives and friends.
