Betty L. Hedges, 84, passed away on April 23, 2008 at her home of over fifty years. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Betty was born and raised in Lamoni, IA, before moving here in 1937, where she remained the rest of her days. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1941. She worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant and Small Engine Dist. before retiring in 1986. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sitting out on her deck watching the birds and looking at her many flowers. She was married to John Hedges on June 3, 1942. They lacked only 3 months shy of being married 60 years, before he preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Vivian Harp Hacker; two brothers, Earl and Paul Hacker; and one grandchild, Kelli Ricketts. Her survivors include her daughters, DiAnn Ricketts, partner Richard Hall, and Tami Trader; her sons, John W. Hedges II and Steve and Judy Hedges; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean Chambers; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 29, from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m., with the service to immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. Burial at Mound Grove Cemetery on River Rd. in Independence, MO.
