Bill Hefter, 84, of Independence, passed away Monday, March 11th 2013. A visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, March 15th at Carson Speaks Chapel; 1501 W Lexington Ave, Independence. A memorial service will follow at 7:30 p.m. at the chapel.
Bill was born September 9th 1928 to Jack C. and Dorothy (Cudworth) Hefter.
He started work at 19 for Allis Chalmers. Bill achieved a position as Industrial Engineer and retired from there after 47 years. He married wife Donna (Townley) and together they raised two children. They attended Fairmount Christian Church for many years and loved to travel together. They especially enjoyed camping in their fifth wheel trailer. Bill was an advocate for Boy Scouts of America as well as a mentor to youth in Junior Achievements. Bill was a casual man and the family encourages attendees to simply come as you are to celebrate Bill’s life.
Bill is survived by sons, Joel Hefter of Woodland Park, CO; Alan Hefter and wife Cindy of Independence, MO; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and brother, Jack Hefter of Montana. He was preceded in death by many of his family members as well as his beloved wife Donna.
