Helen "LaVon" Brown, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Independence, Missouri. LaVon was 85 years old. Born on May 21, 1940, in Lebanon, Missouri, LaVon was raised on a farm, a life marked by dedication, and hard work.
LaVon graduated from Stoutland High School, then furthered her education at Draughon’s Business School in Springfield. Her career was distinguished by her many roles within the banking industry, demonstrating her commitment over the years. She later served as an administrative assistant for DLT Transportation until her well-earned retirement. She spent the last 15 years of her life with her best friend, Roberta Smith, being her primary caretaker.
LaVon's life was deeply rooted in her faith. She was actively involved with the First Christian Church during the early years of her life before transitioning to Blue Springs Christian Church. Her spiritual journey was a cornerstone of her character and a source of strength throughout her life.
Those fortunate enough to know LaVon remember her for her lively nature—her good sense of humor, her playful pranks, and her outgoing and generous spirit. She embraced life fully, finding joy in a variety of interests including bowling in a league, playing canasta, traveling with friends on bus tours, and proudly participating as a member of the Red Hat Society.
LaVon was also able to devote her time as a compassionate caregiver for her best friend, Roberta, whom she lovingly supported for more than twelve years. This dedication is an example of her nurturing character and the profound bond of friendship that defined her life.
LaVon leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering faith. Though she has passed from this world, the memories of her warmth and light continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
LaVon is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Boren (Nick) and Rebecca Brown; brothers, Richard Archer and Ronald Archer (Claudine); grandchildren, Josh Boren, Chelsea Netsell (DuRon) and Zack Boren; and great-grandchildren, Sylvan, Cyrus and Jack.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mildred (Sweatt) Archer; beloved husband, Dennis Brown and son, Gordon “Alan” Brown.
