Leonard Heman, 79, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. A visitation will be from 10-12:00 Noon, Wednesday, May 21 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 727 N. Main Street, Independence, MO 64050 with services immediately following; burial at Ebenezer Church Cemetery, Levasy.
Leonard was born in Independence to Martin and Ella (Dieckman) Heman. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked with Southwestern Bell for 35 years before his retirement in 1985. On August 31, 1950 he was united in marriage to Frances Zwingle and together had two daughters. Leonard was fascinated by life and was a nature lover, enjoying hiking, backpacking and canoeing. Leonard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances, of the home; two daughters and their spouses: Linda and David Hedges of Ft. Davis, TX and Lee Ann and Dan Sporn of Saranac Lake, NY; three grandchildren: Benjamin, Hannah, and Jacob Sporn; brother, Leroy Heman; and a host of extended family and friends. The family suggests contributions be made to the St. Luke’s UCC Memorial Fund.
