Idabel Mae Hengel, 80, of Independence, MO passed away Friday, April 25, 2008 at St. Mary’s Manor. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2008 at Carson-Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 a.m.. Burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Independence. Idabel was born February 14, 1928 in Montrose, MO to John and Frankie (Hobbs) Adams. She was married to Lawrence J. Hengel on November 15, 1952. Mrs. Hengel was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Her life revolved around her family and caring for them. Idabel is survived by her daughters Janet Coleman and husband Dan, Linda Hengel; sons Dennis Hengel and wife Karen, Raymond Hengel and wife Julie; grandchildren Steven Costigan and wife Jaime, Jessica Smith and husband Brian, Dustin Hengel, Joshua Hengel and wife Amanda, Jared Hengel and wife Meredith, Erin Hengel, Brandy Davis and fiancé Joshua, Erika Hengel, Delila Silvers and husband Shane; and by seven great-grandchildren. Idabel was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Lawrence J. Hengel in ’01.
