With deep respect and heartfelt sorrow, we announce the passing of Henry Stewart Bressman, a devoted family man, respected community member, and veteran, who left us on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 13, 1929, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Henry Claude Bressman and Flora Elizabeth (Stodgell) Bressman, Henry's life was characterized by a strong work ethic, loving nature, and unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
Henry answered the call of duty early in life, enlisting in the United States Marine Corps while still in high school. Demonstrating remarkable determination, he completed his diploma at Northeast High School and subsequently was drafted into service during the Korean War. His military journey concluded with his discharge as a Gunnery Sergeant – a testament to his leadership and dedication.
Following his military service, Henry devoted his professional career to KC Power and Light, where he worked diligently as a lineman from 1954 until his retirement in 1990. His colleagues and community knew him as a man of strength, responsibility, and care, reflecting the values he lived by every day.
On November 11, 1960, Henry entered into a lifelong union with his beloved wife, Ruth Alene (White) Bressman. Together, they built a family filled with love and cherished memories. Henry took immense pride in his role as husband and father, cherishing time spent traveling and sharing experiences with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. His joy in nurturing family bonds was evident to all who knew him.
Henry was a valued member of the Community of Christ Pleasant Hill congregation, where he found fellowship and spiritual connection. Outside of his professional and community life, he enjoyed spending quiet moments working in his yard, a pursuit that brought him peace and satisfaction.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Ruth Bressman; his devoted daughters, Miriam Jerene Pendegraft, Linda Pearl Omohundro, Brenda Lynn Himel (David Himel), Nina Jeanne Cooperrider (George Cooperrider Sr.), and Roseanne Elaine Dodgen; and his brother, John Bressman. His legacy continues through nineteen grandchildren, forty-six great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren who will carry his memory forward with honor.
Henry was preceded in death by his son, Russell Wayne Bressman; his parents, Henry and Flora Bressman; and six brothers and sisters, all of whom remain in his heart and memory.
Friends, family, and all whose lives he touched are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on April 1, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel, located at 18020 East 39th St S, Independence, Missouri. The funeral service will follow on April 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the same location, with interment to follow the funeral service at Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
Henry Stewart Bressman’s life was a profound example of dedication, love, and resilience. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family and community. May his soul rest in peace as his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
