Herbert “Austin” Hensley, 76, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 PM in the chapel. Burial at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Austin was born Sept. 26, 1934 in Birchtree, MO to Paul and Mavis (Dunn) Hensley. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and upon his return from France he began working for Owens Corning, retiring in 1994 after 34 years of service. Austin enjoyed traveling to see family, scratch off lottery tickets, and was a diehard Royals and Chiefs fan. Mr. Hensley is survived by daughters Sharon Jackson and husband Scot and Debra Heatwole and husband Larry; five grandsons; siblings: Deanna Potter, Benny Hensley, Duane Hensley, Alvin Hensley, Barbara Lynn, Vivian Ketron, and Nina Hensley; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Lee Hensley; parents; and brother Charles.
