Timothy “Tim” Hensley, 89, of Independence, MO passed away January 6, 2010 at the Villages of Jackson Creek. He was born March 5, 1920 in the King Bee Lumber camp near Doniphan, MO during a snow storm. Tim served in the Navy as a cook on the USS Hornet in WWII. He was a lifetime resident of Missouri. In 1985, after 30 years of service, he retired from Armco Steel where he was a welder/machine operator in the Mat Department. He married Ida B. (Viers) Cornett on April 10, 1946 and was widowed in October 1988. Tim loved people and was always joking around. If anyone needed a helping hand, he was there for them. He loved nature, gardening, fixing things and watching wrestling. When his health declined, his favorite pastime was watching his 3 great granddaughters play at the park. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida; three sisters, Ruth Clawson, Arlene Cates and Vercie Elam; two brothers, Burley and Dallas Hensley; and nephew, George “Danny” Hensley. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Arnold Lederer of Blue Springs, MO; grandson, Jason Lederer and wife Rache’l of Independence, MO; great granddaughters, Taylor, Mollie and McKenzie Lederer; niece Ethel Glover and husband Charles “Mike” of Pleasant Hill, MO; and several great nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 13, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington, Independence, MO. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the chapel, with burial to follow in Brooking Cemetery, Raytown, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.
