Marion "June" Henson (Staanken)

Marion “June” Henson, 89, of Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00p.m. Monday, August 24th at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, August 25th at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
June was born June 30, 1926 in St. Louis, MO as one of three children to Albert John and Stella (Kelly) Staanken. She attended Beaumont High School and afterwards married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Carl Henson. Together they raised five wonderful children. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She often supported their parish and children’s school, St. Williams Catholic, with classes, cafeteria help, and the Ladies’ Guild. They moved to the Kansas City area in 1971 where they became members of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. June enjoyed doting on her family, hosting for holidays, playing bingo, bowling, and bunco, and shopping at Cargo Largo. Her family remembers her as friendly, for her sharp quick wit, her caring nature, her giving spirit, and her love; and nobody could pass up a dish of her famous baked mostaccioli.
June is lovingly remembered by husband, Robert Carl Henson of the home; son, Robert Carl Henson, II (Linda) of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter, Katherine Stone (Mike) of St. Peters, MO; son, Richard Gary Henson (Jo Ann) of Lee’s Summit, MO; son, James William Henson of Blue Springs, MO; daughter, Julie Marie Orwick (Doug Jasa) of Independence, MO; grandchildren, William Carney, Rob Stone, Ashley Orwick, Danielle Henson, Robert C. Henson, III, Brayden Henson; and numerous other family members and friends who will miss her. The family encourages contributions to the American Heart Association in her memory.
