Obituary

Herman "Wayne" Coleman

Herman "Wayne" Coleman, 91, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. Wayne was born on August 22, 1934, in Rockville, Missouri, to Charlie and Mildred Coleman.

On January 15, 1955, Wayne married the love of his life, Ruth Ellen Hunter, in Stockton, Missouri. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with four daughters, sharing many years of memories before Ruth's passing.

Wayne found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved hunting, listening to classic country music, dancing, working on lawn mowers, and never missed the chance to enjoy breakfast at the Englewood Cafe. He will be remembered for his friendly nature, his mechanical skills, and the many conversations shared over a morning meal.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Donna Bongiovanni; son-in-law, Patrick Johnson; grandchildren Jason Orndoff, Eric Dold, Anna Burnett, Katee Burnett, and Chris Manley; five great-grandchildren; his devoted companion of 11 years, Glenna Morris; and his caregiver, Sylvia, whose kindness and care meant so much to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Mildred Coleman; his beloved wife, Ruth Ellen Coleman; his daughters, Debra Orndoff, Marva Jo Johnson, and Bobbi Burnett; his granddaughter, Amy Manley; and his brothers, Larry Coleman and Kenneth Coleman.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, Missouri 64052.
